HOW MUCH DO STAIR-LIFTS COST?

Now here is an interesting question: What should you pay for a stair lift? Hopefully this article will shed some light on the topic:

Stair lift prices will vary according to a number of factors. The manufacturer is one of these, but some others include, the model, the needs of the user, and other options chosen by the person who will be using the stair lift. The location where it is to be delivered and the type of installation needed will also determine the final price.

Other estimates that are included and are important to take into consideration are the installation and maintenance of a stair lift.

Choosing a base model

The price of the most basic straight stair lifts range from $2,000 to $5,000; while the higher-end models start form $5,000 to $7,000.  Due to the complexity of curved staircases, the prices vary from $7,500, but can surpass $10,000. Standing stair lifts are also an option for people who cannot sit comfortably. These will safely transport the person in a standing position and cost between $3,000 and $5,000.

These prices are for the basic models, and added features will cost extra.

Which features are considered to be extras?

The standard features that most stair lifts come with include a swivel seat, safety belt and battery backup.  Some special features that are priced as extra will include: Speed control, lift-up footrests and armrests, tilt or perch seats, manual and automatic fold-up rails, and stair lifts that curve away from the staircase when not used.

Other customized features that push the price up

Stair lifts designed for outdoor use need to be able to withstand climatic conditions and use more expensive materials. The type of staircase in the home where the stair lift will be used also affects the final price. If a staircase is curved or has more than 14 steps, extra costs are incurred for its manufacture. The weight limit of basic and mid-priced stair lifts is 200 to 300 lbs, and if it needs to carry more the price of a heavy duty model starts at $4,000.

Installation costs of a stair lift

Installing a stair lift cannot be done as a DIY project because of the safety requirements. Trained professionals undertake the job, and depending on the model, the service may be included in the price given by the dealer or manufacturer. Because an installation can take up to four hours, depending on the type of staircase, it can cost up to $2,000. If there is no electrical outlet near the staircase, then a qualified electrician needs to draw one at an extra cost. Typically, electricians charge $65 to $95 per hour and they need about two hours to complete the task.

How much does stir lift maintenance cost?

Stair lifts require a yearly maintenance check from a qualified representative who will be sent by the dealer or manufacturer. This ensures that the stair lift is in proper working order and the approximate charge is $70 per hour. The maintenance check typically takes between two to three hours to complete. The service technician will also check the back-up battery that charges on the rail and if necessary will replace it at a cost of $15 to $25.

Maintenance programs are also available and in exchange for an annual fee, it includes a regular lift service and a 24 hour emergency call out service. Stair lifts that are still under warranty should be serviced by the original installer or manufacturer. Stair lifts offer independence and security to seniors and people with mobility issues. Their installation and maintenance ensure that they have a reliable means of getting around their home and it is an investment into their well-being.
