These are some of the popular types of wallpaper available and popularly used today.

Non-Woven Wallpaper

Special blends of natural and synthetic fibers are used to create these wallpapers that are the latest trend in decorating. They are breathable, so mould and mildew are never a problem, and non-woven wallpapers can be washed. They are tear-resistant and easy to apply, so those that like to DIY will have no problem pasting them and can they can be used as a base to paint on. User friendly and eco-friendly, non-woven wallpapers don’t expand or contract, so won’t change size and their only drawback is that they are more expensive.

Traditional Wallpaper

Composed mainly of cellulose, this is also a popular type of wallpaper. Single or double layered; it’s ecological, breathable affordable and accessible. Traditional wallpaper is often chosen for use in children’s bedrooms and dining rooms. It’s not washable and will fade in direct sunlight.

Vinyl Wallpaper

Long-lasting, vinyl wallpaper consists of a backing paper, followed by the fiber or paper and then has a plastic upper coating. This makes it durable, water-resistant, light-resistant and reasonably priced. Because it’s easy to clean this wallpaper is ideal to use in bathrooms, kitchens and dining rooms.

Embossed or anaglypta wallpaper

Plain walls can get an interesting contrast with these wallpapers that either have delicate imprints or dramatic geometric designs. Embossed papers can be used to co-ordinate with other accents to create interesting features. These are great for hiding imperfections in walls and can also be painted over, but are difficult to glue correctly and to remove. Embossed wallpapers are available in a range of styles from vintage to contemporary and are great for heavy traffic areas.

Grasscloth Wallpaper

This is the type of wall covering that can add interest and depth to a room without having to commit to a specific pattern or color. Grasscloth is expensive but it has the advantage of hiding imperfections and is durable, so it will last for a long time.

Flock Wallpaper

Luxurious looking flock wallpapers have been around since the beginning of wallpaper history, but have never lost their place in interior design. Available in an assortment of patterns and colors, they offer a 3D dimension to the area that they are used and give a room a sense of opulence. Irresistible to touch, they also help absorb sound.

Bamboo Wallpaper

This natural material is environmentally friendly but unless sealed, it’s not resistant to moisture. It is usually cleaned by dusting and vacuuming and is not recommended for use in kitchens and bathrooms. However, it has antiseptic characteristics and so prevents moss growth and kills germs but is expensive and its edges can’t be concealed.
